For its exposed location alone is the Dorma admin building in Ennepetal a natural centre of the company’s site and a reference point in terms of the surrounding landscape, too.
The old building, from 1969, made of exposed concrete, more or less, in 2004 was modernised and completed by the KSP Engel + Zimmermann firm. The realised extra storey made of glass underscores the building’s iconography.
The extra storey is a sort of glass office crown and includes a very green roof garden. In the course of the modernisation and expansion, the entire building was clad in an open glass shell that forms the building, the new office levels and the roof garden into a unit. The expressive support structure draws upon this “crown” concept.
Trans-level air spaces break down the floors and provide vertical access, reception and recreation areas. The modernisation made for a clear and refined structure that underscores the representative aspect of an admin building.
