Emil-Schumacher Museum

The Emil Schumacher Museum is dedicated to the eponymous Hagen artist and was opened in 2009. His works of art are among the most important expressionist works of the second half of the 20th century.
The three-storey rectangular exposed-concrete building is characterised by a single-flight longitudinal stairwell. The entire building is clad by a glass structure borne by 3cm steel ropes. All glass panes are connected by the ropes in a point-like fashion. The roof structure is based upon 14 steel trusses. To create a stark night and day contrast, the facade was equipped with light elements and its effect is thus reinforced. The glass building is connected to the Karl Ernst Osthaus Museum. The ensemble thus forms the Kunstquartier Hagen (arts quarter).
