The Friedrich-Ebert Bridge is the most northerly of the bridges over the River Rhine in Bonn. The A 565 motorway passes over it. The bridge was opened to traffic on June 28, 1967.
Including the approach bridge, the Friedrich-Ebert Bridge has a total length of 1,290 m.
The river bridge itself is 590 m long and designed as a steel cable-stayed bridge with central support. It was the first German cable-stayed bridge in which a multi-cable system was used instead of the standard small number of tension cables.
Two 55 m-high steel pylons support the bridge with a system of 80 steel cables arranged in the shape of a harp.
The carriageway slab made of steel is 29 m wide and offers space for two three-lane carriageways, as well as footpaths and cycle paths.
The approach bridges consist of reinforced concrete and are 660 m long on the left-hand side of the Rhine and 110 m long on the right-hand side.
