Urban living provides a multitude of opportunities that the GrugaCarree manages to combine in a remarkable way. The “Rü” inspires shopping sprees, the Gruga is also a great place to unwind in the evening hours and its luxurious ambiance makes coming home a pleasure.
The architectural firms of Petzinka Pink Architekten and Koschany + Zimmer developed 111 individual rental flats right in the centre of the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region. The L-shaped building elements encompass an inner courtyard inspired by the “secret gardens” in Paris, which is discreetly lit at night. Clipped trees and shrubbery line a circular path through the area, which is furnished with benches and passes a small playground. On the street side, the two building elements are almost completely encircled by a green belt.
Each residential space, whether a one-person flat with two rooms or a maisonette, is furnished with parquet floors, floor heating, a guest WC and a balcony or terrace, as well as floor-to-ceiling windows. And of course each flat has its own parking place in the underground garage, accessible barrier-free by means of lifts from each floor in the complex.
Since summer 2008 the GrugaCarree’s architectural features and its high quality of housing have earned it a place among the eight THS neighbourhoods awarded with the TÜV “Quality of Life in Residential Estates” certificate.
