The Radisson SAS at Messekreisel Cologne was opened in March 2003 and has 393 rooms and suites, two restaurants and a wellness and conference area.
The hotel’s interior is virtually a staged affair and also forms a kind of stage.
The lobby and the bar are subdivided by high transparent and breathable red curtains.
The reception seems to be a longitudinal structure, characterised by the strong material contrast between the shot jacaranda of the counter and the rough lime surface of the base.
In the breakfast restaurant “Pronto”, all things are arranged around a long buffet. The almost endless dark stone table with its pillar-like legs and the playful base cabinet rather gives the appearance of its own piece of architecture. The floor covering contrasts with the dark table in light bamboo parquet. In addition, there is a light sculpture made of orange-red silk in its own corpus.
The heart of the second restaurant, “Paparazzi“, is formed by a basalt lava pizza oven using firewood.
The dominating material in the guest rooms is mirrored glass, shadowy reflecting outlines and light from its matt surface and contrasting with the soft velvet of the sheets and boards of the bed.
