The town hall of Werne was built between 1512 and 1514 and, along with two other buildings, is one of the oldest stone buildings in this town. The two-storey gabled house demonstrated the standing and wealth of the town. The Gothic arcade on its southern side in earlier times served as a place for public announcements, among other things.
About 1561, the building, incidentally having been built by using an existing one, also got a triangular gable bearing an inscription. The typical Münsterland house is characterised by a very nice council chamber, in which the town council meets to this day.
Between 1968 and 1973, the listed building was completely renovated and is, once again, the focal point of the historical Werne market square.
