For the Bundesgartenschau (federal horticultural exhibition) 1959 a former landfill and allotments, old Kaiser-Wilhelm-Hain and Buschmühlenpark were combined to form Westfalenpark.
The park not only features “Florian“, the post office and observation tower, but also a number of other restaurants and things: Parkcafé in its playful 1950s architecture and, of a very different type, Restaurant Buschmühle, which in its clear designs is rather reminiscent of Mies van der Rohe’s work.
The restaurant consists of three cubic steel structures with windows and wall elements made of dark tropical wood and walls of yellow clinker.
