St. Maria im Kapitol, Köln

On the foundations of the Roman capitol temple, between 1040 and 1065 the three-nave St. Maria church with a triconche in the east and a three-tower western part was built. It is one of the major Salic church buildings in Germany. Inside, important parts of the rich ornaments have been preserved, e.g. the Romanesque picture door from about 1060, the choir screen from 1520/25 and a number of important glass paintings
