On the remains of two Romanesque buildings, after the fire of 1247 a two-truss hall church was built. The southern nave wall, the walls of the transept and parts of the tower wall are still this building’s.
In the following centuries, the church was extended. The transept, for example, got an eastward extension in 1519, and in 1547 Michaeliskapelle was added. From 1652-70, the tower was expanded and capped with a Baroque tower cupola. On the south side of the church, we find an ornamented late-gothic round-arch portal. The hall in the church is wide and compact.
A late-Gothic tabernacle from about 1520 and a high altar from the 17th century with paintings from Rubens’ workshop are part of the impressive interior.
