The Sparkassenkarree’s (block) new counter area is a “public space” and thus a communication and event centre for both the Sparkasse (municipal savings bank) and the City of Hagen.
The large ellipse in the floor and suspended ceiling panels interconnect the various spatial and functional areas. The straight grid of the inner courtyard’s facades and supports is continued in the floor covering and makes for spatial reference to the building’s ellipse.
Panels suspended from the office facades allow a simulation of various colour moods for, say, events. The panels also develop and stagger the airspace in an exciting fashion and create ceiling heights that people can feel comfortable with.
The staggered water band is a communicative place and underscores the public character of this area.
