Stiftung Schloss Dyck - Zentrum für Gartenkunst und Landschaftskultur

‘Stiftung Schloss und Park Dyck’ (a foundation) was founded in 1999 and as a centre for the art of gardening and landscape culture deals with both the latest developments and the history of gardens.
The ‘Wasserschloss Dyck’ (a castle surrounded by moats) has a long history and was first mentioned in documents in 1094.
The parks surrounding the palace were created about 1800 by Prince Joseph zu Salm-Reifferscheidt-Dyck, modelled on an English landscape garden.
In the course of the ‘Landesgartenschau EUROGA 2002’ with its centre in Dyck the historic park of the castle with its exceptional collection of plants and its old trees was renewed. At the same time, a theme park with contemporaneous gardens was created on the adjoining so-called ‘Dycker Feld’.
A total of 22 650 sq m theme gardens were embedded in up to 4m tall miscanthus china reed.
A straight system of lawn paths with dark slabs structures the site and incorporates the surrounding historic buildings’ eyelines.
The different gardens convey a broad range of the latest gardening trends of various themes and concepts.
