“Mediapark KOMED-Haus”, Cologne

On a wedge-shaped site at the heart of the Mediapark a new media centre, KOMED-Haus, was built. This communication and media centre comprises a number of media education functions and serves as a venue.
The building’s volume develops out of the wedge-shaped site. The lateral view is characterised by two façade slabs cased in earth-coloured natural stone. These form the structure’s case. However, due to the large indentations and punches they seem rather permeable and let the panes at the back come to the fore.
The various functions like venue, education centre and multi-storey studio are deemed independent structures and brought together inside.
A gap that stretches over the entire height of 27m forms the central foyer, which, with its vertically rising stairs, webs and lifts, provides visitors with a very memorable spatial experience.
