Fleher Bridge

Fleher Bridge is a motorway bridge across the River Rhine. As is the case with the other bridges in the Düsseldorf family, it is designed as a cable-stayed bridge.
In order to protect the catchment area of the Fleher waterworks it does not pass at right angles over the river, but at an acute angle, as a result of which the main span is increased to 368 m.
The eye-catching aspect of the bridge is the striking pylon, which is designed in the shape of an upside-down "Y". The pylon consists of reinforced concrete, which was an innovation, and the highest bridge pylon in Germany at 146 m.
Fleher Bridge is a rampant centrally-supported cable-stayed bridge. All of the cables of the supporting structure are arranged in seven groups, which are connected to the supports in the area of the central strip. On the land side the cables are arranged in the form of a "harp", i.e. parallel to one another, and on the water side in the shape of a fan.

The main support of Fleher Bridge consists of 41 m-wide and 21 m-long steel segments. The approach bridge has a length of 780 metres and consists of reinforced concrete. The six lanes of the A 46 motorway cross the bridge, with combined pedestrian and cycle paths also present on each side. On average 75,000 vehicles cross the bridge every day.
