In order to protect his company´s capital against inflation, Robert Gerling acquired the first items of real estate in Cologne in the early 1920s.
With the growth of the company from the 1950s on, Dr. Hans Gerling had an entire ensemble of buildings erected in the Cologne suburb of "Friesenviertel" and designed by renowned architects according to his own ideas.
One of these buildings is the group´s own high-rise building, built between 1950 and 1953, which is 56 m high and has 15 storeys.
The tower block was the first building of its type to be constructed from new in Cologne after the end of the Second World War. It was erected in a former residential quarter that had been largely destroyed by bombs.
