Hauptverwaltung Gelsenwasser

For the expansion of the Gelsenwasser AG HQ, next to the 1970s building another building, identical in shape and size, was erected.
While the existing admin building, erected by Harald Deilmann, is faced with anodised aluminium, the new one has a fully glazed metal frame facade. The glass cube of the new building s connected with the old building by glazed bridges.
The facade of the seven-storey building ends in a metres high continuous glass wall, enveloping an HVAC block, a conference room and a walkable roof garden. The facade consists of storey-high aluminium frames enclosing the glass elements. The space between the double-glazed elements houses the aluminium blinds. The adjustable slats of the blinds not only protect against the sun but also allow to control the incidence of light so that no artificial light is necessary even when the blinds are closed.
For the flooring, aluminium “gills” allow a natural ventilation of the offices. Geo-thermal absorption cooling and ceiling panels for heating and cooling create a good indoor environment quality.
The floors of the admin building can be partitioned in a very flexible manner. Steel staircases in the core connect two floors each to form a unit.
