Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst Aachen

The forum was opened in 1991 in the former umbrella factory Emil Brauer. The building is from 1928, designed by the Aachen architect Josef Bachmann in the Bauhaus style. It is a reinforced concrete frame, clinkered in yellow and red. In 1988, the building was bought by the City of Aachen and, for the purposes of the museum, gutted and converted (architect: Eller). In the ground floor’s lobby, a forum-like square pit is dominant. The permanent collection, temporary exhibitions, the library, the restoration workshop and a restaurant are found on three sides. The basement accommodates a theatre. Outside there is a sculpture park.
