With the new building of 2004 the museum Abtei Liesborn, founded in 1966 in a former abbey, has expanded its exhibition area.
The beginnings of the abbey go back to the early 9th century.
The core of the museum’s permanent collection is sacral art. An ever increasing collection of the later modern age necessitated the annexe, which consists of an ashlar calm and clear in its design.
Slim window bands accentuate the building in terms of light but without breaking up its very geometrical form. The complete facing of the façade with greenish recycling glass again accentuates the monolithic shape of the building while simultaneously underlining its distinctiveness.
The annexe in its rather guarded design does not compete with the existing ensemble of buildings but complements the historical buildings with its modern architectural language.
