The 127m tall high-rise building is situated behind a perimeter development and faces the opera house designed by Alvar Aalto. From the bright entrance hall, which is used as a Folkwang Museum branch, four glass lifts take you to all 24 upper floors of the building.
The first basement, opening up toward a small park, houses the staff restaurant and conference rooms. On the office floors, all offices face outside. At the cylinder’s centre we only find facilities and kitchenettes. The offices thus are lit by daylight and receive fresh air, since the building has a glass cavity wall, which allows a natural ventilation of the office rooms.
The staff can also air-condition all offices. On the representative floor accommodating the management we find a circular meeting room and two large roof terraces. The RWE tower is one of the world’s first ecological high-rise buildings. The cavity facade and the technology used allow energy savings of about 10 per cent compared with a “normal” office tower.
